PRAYER TO THE SUN

A yarn piece created and explained by Jose Isabel Gonzales De La Cruz (Chubello).


a. Talk of the shaman.

b. Niarikas that the sun sees because they have rays like itself. Therefore, the sun blesses with its rays.

c. A prayer made with votive arrow with feathers attached.

d. A deer snare as a prayer to catch deer.

e. A votive arrow with feathers attached.

f. A deer snare as a prayer to catch deer.

g. Kupoo’dee coming from a votive arrow to take a message to the sun.

h. Hummingbird messengers receiving votive arrows to take a message to the sun. This hummingbird is chief of all the other hummingbirds. The chest is painted blue and white, the color of the real bird that acts as the messenger. The arrows the hummingbirds are carrying are in 5 colors to represent mistakes that are being asked to be forgiven.

i. Deer antler with 5 points on each side that transform into 5 votive arrows for the 5 directions. The deer thus transforms into different things.
